The Power of Petrified Wood

At HULLEK, we carefully select unique pieces of petrified wood that reflect the raw beauty and deep character shaped by nature over millions of years. Many of our current pieces come from Indonesia, a region known for its bold black tones and warm beige hues. Especially in areas like Java and Sumatra, the natural conditions create fossilized wood with extraordinary depth and variation.

However, HULLEK does not limit itself to a single origin. Around the world, different landscapes give petrified wood its own palette and personality. Each piece we offer is chosen for its uniqueness, regardless of where it comes from.

What is petrified wood

Petrified wood forms when a fallen tree becomes completely buried under sediment or volcanic ash. In this oxygen-free environment, a process begins that can take millions of years. Mineral-rich groundwater slowly flows through the wood and replaces each cell with minerals such as quartz, iron, manganese or copper. What remains is no longer wood but stone, preserving the grain, growth rings and fine textures of the original tree in remarkable detail.

The result is a fossil that impresses both visually and energetically. Stone shaped by time, born from ancient life.

Color variations around the world

Petrified wood can vary greatly depending on its origin. Indonesian pieces often show strong contrasts in black and beige, while American petrified wood might feature warmer tones such as reds, oranges or golden yellows. These colors are determined by the minerals that were present during the fossilization process. No two pieces are ever exactly alike.

From natural force to design statement

The pieces we select are not just decorative. They make a statement. Tabletops, sculptures, columns or polished slices. Each piece tells a story of time, transformation and elemental power. And despite being millions of years old, they blend effortlessly into modern interiors. From minimalist to luxurious, rustic to refined.

HULLEK represents timeless elegance and raw purity. Petrified wood embodies both like no other material.
